Ask a fly angler what she wears most, and odds are she’ll say her vest. It keeps her core warm and her arms free, and it goes from the boat ramp to the coffee shop without a second thought. We made this one to celebrate a club that has kept women on the water for three decades.

The year was 1997 when Colorado Women Flyfishers first came together in Denver. Since then, the nonprofit has taught knots and casting strokes to hundreds of newcomers, swapped stories at monthly meetings, and packed up for trips to rivers in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, and beyond. Members now span many states, joining in person or by Zoom, all united by the same love of moving water and good company.

As CWF reaches its 30th anniversary, Salt Skins is partnering with the club on a collection of custom-branded pieces. This vest is the one built for the in-between days, when spring runoff is just starting to clear or fall color is lining the canyon and the weather can’t decide what it wants to be.

The design starts at the core, where warmth matters most, and leaves your shoulders and arms completely free for a long cast or a quick net job. A wind-resistant, water-repellent polyester shell sheds light rain and spray off the river, while 6-ounce polyfill holds in heat on breezy mornings. The zip-through cadet collar seals out the wind, and an interior storm flap behind the reverse coil zipper adds another layer of protection.

Storage is generous and well thought out. Two front zippered pockets keep your hands warm between casts. Inside, a zippered pocket secures your phone and license, and a second pocket with a drawcord and toggle holds smaller essentials. Snug the open hem with its drawcord and toggles for a custom fit, then throw the vest over a long sleeve on a mild day or layer it under your jacket when the temperature falls.
